Ford 6.4L Powerstroke Excessive White Smoke

White smoke is a common problem in 6.4 Powerstroke diesel engines. If you’ve noticed white smoke on startup, during high humidity or acceleration after steady-state driving, you’ll want to address the problem quickly. 

Usually, white smoke results from contamination during your engine’s combustion reaction, resulting from stiction — a slimy build-up of debris from unburned fuel in the injector. There could also be complications with your exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler or other technical problems. 

Ford 6.4L Powerstroke White Smoke 

Here are some of the common causes of 6.4 white smoke:

• Clogged injectors: Occasionally, fuel injectors will clog with carbon, dirt or other debris. If the blockage isn’t addressed, it could lead to rough cold starts, poor idling or engine misfires. If your 6.4 engine’s injector is clogged, we recommend one dose of Diesel Extreme to clean the injector and other fuel system parts. In addition to cleaning, a powerful cetane boost is provided to strengthen performance. 
• Poor fuel quality: If water or other particles contaminate the engine’s fuel, change your fuel filter and then treat it with one dose of Diesel Extreme. The Diesel Extreme fuel additive will clear the water from your fuel tank so your truck no longer products white smoke.
